I posted out this earlier in this thread. I'd have to watch the episode again to be for sure. Darn Faulty memory. What episode is it? But from what I can remember, Stefan did munch on Elena's neck and did end up chasing after her; slamming himself into lockers as he went.
I saw people calling BS on the fact that Damon remembered Kol compelling him since Kol specifically said he wouldn't' remember. I think Damon actually FIGURED it out because otherwise he wouldn't have wanted to hurt Jeremy.
And Damon was trying to fight it. He was telling Jer to run and to kill him.

Stefan fighting the compulsion was in episode 3x05 right? (aka one of my favorites, ever. Klaus was so deliciously evil). First time he fought it was when he tried to stake himself instead of killing Elena (I guess technically Damon did the same thing with trying to beg Jeremy to kill him instead. Second time he DID fight the compulsion when Klaus told him to turn it off and Stefan shouted "NO". And then 3rd times the charm when Klaus told him to turn it off again? Or am I missing a time? I've seen several people say that the reason Stefan was able to fight the compulsion better is that he's had more experience fighting with that sort of thing. His "true nature" is to be a Ripper, so he's in constant battle not to give into that. So maybe he's just stronger in that area? Damon has always been able to do whatever he wants as a vampire because like he said "he knows when not to step over the edge" unlike Stefan who can't seem to hang out in the middle of good or evil. He's all or nothing. I've also seen people speculating that Damon just hates himself and didn't even try because he figured he'd come up short against his brother anyway (since he threw in "why, because Stefan did?") Really, I don't think there's a deeper meaning behind it besides the writers needing to put something out there for SE fans to hang on to. That's it. Which is sort of sucky to all the characters involved, but it worked.

I thought Damon said "Why...because Stefan did?" because he thinks that Elena is still looking for things in him that she liked about Stefan. There must be an underlying feeling, doubtful as to whether he's required to live up to her previous standards or not, now that they're together. Plus the sire bond influence must have had him not fully convinced of Elena's feelings for him. In season 2 and 3, Damon would get irritated everytime Elena tried to tell him stuff like "Be the better man, Damon..." or "You can't act like a monster in this town..not around me!" And the line preceding this one in this episode was in a similar tone...something in the likes of "I know you're strong enough, Damon. I know you can resist the compulsion." And he's always made it clear to her that he is not like Stefan. Just as he does here...well, sort of before steeling himself to fight it, which he eventually did. Would have been a great scene, had not Elena ruined it with "I love you. And you love me..." I don't see how comparing the brothers' resistance to two very different compulsions is even considered a valid approach to determine anything. Anyways, Kol's method of compelling was kinda wicked! Usually both the parties involved would have a range of serious faces on but here Kol was, delightfully constructing clauses and everything!

Thankx for the replies you guys. Like I had said, I thought Stefan had failed to fight it, so in this episode I was hoping that Damon fail too, otherwise, imo, it would have been fanservice and contrived. I didn't know there was people who thought Stefan actually succeeded in fighting it off completely. I mean both actually struggled and tried to resist it, but ultimately failed is what I thought. @donna When I first saw it, I also was like how did he remember? I thought Kol said he wouldn't. But then, yeah, I thought of the fact that Damon knew he wouldn't want to hurt Jeremy, so that was the loophole for that. And I agree, he was fighting it and tried to get Jeremy to kill him to stop the compulsion. The episode was 3x05, and I thought Stefan failed, but people think he didn't because he had to be compelled three times first. Honestly, I don't like Stefan/SE but I liked 3x05 and him fighting, until they went OTT to show how epic they are. Mandy I like that theory, that because he's the ripper he's had more experience. It beats the excuse being he did it for epic love. I thought the scene was amazing, until they went OTT to show how epic SE is, and, like you said, I think it was just another example of that. To show the SE fans that SE is still epic, and beats compulsion. aeidail I have seen that theory around, that Damon still wasn't sure that Elena is in love with him, and it's the sire bond. Damon has a lot of insecurities so I'm sure that he must not really be 100% sure her feelings are real, which is why he wants to break the sire bond. I also agree that it's pointless to compare them, since it was two different compulsions. Kol's methods was indeed awesome. I really hope they just dagger Kol this thursday and not kill him, because I want to see more of him in the spinoff. Maybe they could explain why Klaus was so afraid of Elijah waking up Kol in s3. I have another question for you guys. In the scene where Rebekah had the dagger against Kol's back, do you guys think she would have actually done it? Me personally, I don't think she would have daggered him, just like Kol wouldn't have killed her with the white oak stake. I think both was just caught up in the moment.

Nah, I don't think she would have gone through with it. She hesitated and instead chose to talk to him instead of just doing it. Even Klaus has moments where he cries afterwards, so it's not an easy thing.
Not sure about Kol, though. He didn't hesitate. Rebekah is the one who caught his arm as he was swinging down.

I remember Bill saying Damon was sloppy when he was compelling people. Maybe he's not as strong mind-wise in resisting compelling? Needs more practice.

Right, I forgot about that. You think he really would have did it though? Wouldn't that have made him a hypocrite? He was talking about how their family is being ruined, and how Klaus always daggered them, but he was going to go one step farther and kill her? Some people thought he was saying that stuff about Elijah and their family to distract her, so he could kill her. I don't think he would have still. I think he just got caught up in the moment. Speaking of Elijah, isn't he supposed to be coming back in 4x13 or something?

I don't think Damon has actually compelled someone lately has he? I remember him compelling Matt to forget about Elena attacking him, but I don't think he uses compulsion at all anymore. Maybe he does need practice, with using and resisting compulsion lol.

Well, he compelled Jeremy to leave MF for Colorado. He compelled Matt. I think he compelled a random girl when trying to train Stefan in snatcheaterase because the animal blood wasn't doing it for him. And he was afraid of being a ripper with human blood.
It was in Season 2 that Bill told Damon that his method of compelling was sloppy. After Caroline was rescued from Bill's torture, Damon compelled him to leave town. And then he was very surprised to see Bill show up at the MF council meeting. Bill told him then he'd worked on methods to resist compulsion, but it wasn't hard with Damon because his compelling was sloppy. HTH.

It was s3 when Bill told Damon that his compulsion was sloppy. And I meant recently, as in this season. The only times I remember are, when he compelled Bill and Jeremy last season, then Matt this season. He hardly uses it anymore, so maybe he does need practice.

Elijah is rumored to be back in 4x16, I think Ahh, 4x16 right. I wonder if he's going to give us more information on this cure.

I'm still hoping to get a scene where Klaus compels Damon in the next episode. It looks like he definitely might (when Damon gets slammed into the wall). I do like Damon but I don't have to like him all the time.
