Thanks Donna ^^ Press Release!!! The CW Orders First New Series of Next Season with "The Originals" www.spoilertv.com/2013/04/beauty-and-beast-and-hart-of-dixie.htmlApril 26, 2013 (Burbank, California) - The CW Network has given early pickups to three additional dramas for next season, including the first new series order of the season with THE ORIGINALS, the highly anticipated spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, which was introduced during last night's episode. The network also gave advance orders for the second season of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST andthe third season of HART OF DIXIE. The pickups were announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. "As soon as we saw last night's episode of 'The Vampire Diaries,' we knew we wanted more of 'The Originals' - Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have done a fantastic job with 'The Vampire Diaries,' which is as fast-paced and well-written as ever, and Julie has created an equally compelling world for 'The Originals,'" said Pedowitz. "We're also very excited to bring back 'Beauty And The Beast' and 'Hart of Dixie' for next season - both series continue to be creatively strong and compelling, and their fans are incredibly passionate. I'm very happy to have all three series on the schedule for next season." ALSO The Originals EPISODE TVD jumped 52% in viewers!!

Yeah, I'm seeing now that The Originals beat out ABC and NBC in target demo. I'm not sure how much the ratings were adjusted, but didn't they end up beating 4x19? I can't remember. If you look at twitter, online polls, and youtube everyone seems to LOVE the episode. Tumblr is the only place where everyone is still continuing to complain. Thankfully, it seems to be going the way of when the spin off was first introduced. Everyone is slowly coming around..lol

How do they go about "adjusting" the ratings? I think I read once they take into account online views of the show up to 3 days after airing on TV. Do you have to be a "Neilsen family" for it to count in online viewing? What about DVR?

Ok, I just have to rant for a second. I'm not sure if people are getting that the episode was an actual pilot or at this point they are just trying to nit pick, but I don't get all the complaining about not knowing this or that. For example, someone earlier was mad because they didn't understand why Klaus just didn't kill Marcel. When someone else said "well, it's probably a mixture of things, but Marcel DOES have this "secret weapon' that the witches are obviously afraid of" and then it was all "But I don't understand what that secret weapon would be, it makes no sense"......Um. You're not supposed to know yet! You're supposed to wonder what Marcel has, you're supposed to wonder what sort of rules Sophie wants them to follow. It's setting up the story line! At the beginning of TVD this season, we had no idea why the council members were blown up. Same thing applies here. People are mad because they don't understand the baby thing. Some of said they'd be ok with it if it was explained...again, we got a 2 minute scene explaining it in the pilot. There is going to be more explanations come October. People are mad because they feel like Hayley is being forced to have this child because they didn't get her point of view. IT'S COMING. All this episode was for was to show what sort of story lines The Originals would do, at least in the first half of the season. It wasn't to introduce, explain, and then conclude a story arc. Is it just me? I get that I'm in the minority since this baby thing sort of intrigues me, but still. It's like people have forgotten how a season premiere (which this basically was) works or something. Ok, end rant.

ILY, Mandy! Nitpicking is exactly the word to describe it. Everything in 4X20 was done to set up Klaus as the main character...look at Katherine's part in it and Elijah's too...and people were expecting Hayley to have a say about her baby and her own body while she (the likely collateral damage) was being held hostage by the crazy witches. LOL. Her part in all of this will come. And there's so much more to come: Camille's storyline, Elijah and Rebekah's too. Marcel...and who knows what else is coming. Flashbacks. A couple of guest characters maybe and almost everybody is under the impression that it's going to be all about the baby. Weird as it is, people have an issue with Jane-Ann dying for the spell she did. IDK Marcel killing that witch was the coolest thing ever. It just made things seem more sinister and real than ever. The way she was looking at Klaus and how the crowd cheered after she fell...it was creepy! The scene conveyed all that and so much more and people are like "A strong female character was sacrificed. This show is so lame."

Do you have to be a "Neilsen family" for it to count in online viewing? What about DVR? I don't know all the ratings specifics (because I forgot most of what I learned in Media class in college... YIKES!) but I do know they make adjustments based on Live viewing ratings + same day DVR viewing. They also have another adjustment of Live + 7 Days, in which they add up the DVR views done within 7 days of the episode airing. I do believe it's Nielsen who does these measurements. So basically, each show has three different measurements. Live Ratings Live + Same Day DVR Ratings Live + 7 Day Ratings I thought they also did a +3 day thing but I'm not sure.

From what I saw in TVbytheNumbers, 4x20 tied with 4x19 for a series low 18-49 demo, but had more total viewers (2.24 versus 2.14 for 4x19). I kind of have a feeling that 4x21 ratings won't be much better tbh... As for fan reactions. Honestly, I think most people only hated the baby part. But because everyone on tumblr is super emotional rn, their dislike for one thing has caused several people to start complaining about everything. It's like a domino really. And it's a bit funny because some people are now complaining about the very same things that they loved a few days ago . Things will calm down eventually. People will still side-eye the baby part, I think (*cough*I will*cough*) but so far I have hope that Julie will resolve this in a way that won't insult my intelligence too much.

Yeah, I think that's what is getting to me. At the beginning everyone was acknowledging the fact that they liked everything else. But now it's nothing but hate focused right on the baby storyline. I'm assuming that some of it is pack mentality. You see your friends/followers being angry, you make an angry post too. And now it's just gotten out of hand. I've seen KC fans saying that TVD is sending a poor message by trying to redeem someone with a child and I want to scream "KC'ers are the LAST people to call out the messages TVD sends out"...lol. What happened to "it's not real life, the same morals do not apply"? Or people gripping that Klaus said "every king needs an heir" because he can't die.......even though it was obvious he wasn't being literal, it was just his way of saying he was accepting the baby. Like how we all swore up and down that Klaus didn't LITERALLY mean he was going to kill Caroline when he told her to stop talking or he'd kill her. I sort of wish Plec would do an interview, but I'm afraid if a.) what she would say and b.) how people would interpret it. If poor sweet baby JoMo got hate for defending the baby thing (MY EYES. JoMo hate is NO NO) I think it might be better she hold off until the finale when we know who/want/when/why in terms of all the characters.

Ah...Mandy. I think I was one of those that said that about redeeming yourself with a child. got me. Actually what I said was the thought process reminded me of couples that have a child as a last ditch effort to save a failing relationship. Not fair to the child.

Haha, I was talking about a specific example when someone point blank said TVD was sending a bad message Another bad message TVD sends is that everyone in the universe is good looking.

HDU, that's a good message. That's the best message I've ever received. And when I say "I" I mean "my eyes".

Well, they do have a point in a way. I remember reading criticism of Twilight that Bella would encourage females to think they needed a man to complete themselves and lose themselves in their man. No personality of their own. I'd be more worried that teens would be inspired to become vampires.
