Somebody probably dumped her somewhere; if she was declawed she had a family at some point. My parents live right next to a gameland, and stray pets turn up all the time there, because people just drive them out there and dump them. It makes me so mad. At least take them to the pound, you know? If you can't find a no-kill shelter, at least at a shelter where they do euthanize them, there is still a chance somebody might adopt them before they are put down. If you dump them, they're going to starve to death or get eaten by coyotes. That's what I'd wondered. Or if someone else besides the animal control workers brought her in to the shelter, it might have been the actual owners not wanting her and lied about the reason. Our shelter is a essentially no kill shelter, but they don't advertise as such. I've seen displays inside the building where they occasionally advertise animals that have been there a long time. There was one yesterday that had been there 67 days. Longest I've seen is a year. The exception is if they are very sick or poorly socialized to the point that they might not be safe to be around humans. I think they also may euthanize any they get that test positive for Fel HIV or leukemia. They do keep them for at least a week to make sure no one claims them. Anyway, even though she's 9, we figured that we'd have a few years with her. We grow them old here. The youngest we've had to put one to sleep was 13. (cancer)

For a cat, 9 is not really that old. My parents have a 15-year-old cat, and he's still going strong; my boyfriend's family lost one of their cats a couple of years ago, and she was 19, if I remember correctly. My mom had a friend when she was younger who she used to housesit for occasionally, and that friend also had a 19-year-old cat. It's very possible you could still have several more years with her.
Also, adopting older pets is always nice, because most people want a kitten, or a puppy, and the older animals often go ignored. On the one hand it's understandable, because people want as long as possible with a pet, but on the other hand, the older animals still need good homes in their last years of life.

Yeah, like I said we put a cat to sleep a couple of months ago. We believe she was 20. We got her in 1997 and the vet thought she was 3 1/2 then. And we have a 15 year old cat. The shelter reduces the fees for animals that are "seniors" AKA over 5.

The shelter reduces the fees for animals that are "seniors" AKA over 5. I wonder if the shelters here do that too--probably. I'm in an apartment now, but once I have a place where I can have pets that aren't in cages, I want a big dog. The breeds I'm looking at tend to end up in adoption, because people don't research them properly, get them as puppies because they're cute, and then get rid of them because suddenly they have this humongous dog they don't know how to handle. I've already been eyeing some of the shelters here that specialize in big breeds like Mastiffs and Great Danes, so I'll most likely be taking the adoption route when it's time for me to get a dog.

I had a dream once where Klaus was mad and turned into a wolf. I think I was mixing him up with up Jacob (Twilight) since I had watched New Moon right before falling asleep.

I had a Klaus dream once where Caroline had come to him and wanted him to erase a specific memory and Klaus was all "how do you know I won't just compel you to love me while I'm at it" and I was thinking "Klaus! Don't tell her that!" and then I woke up..lol

I have had no Klaus dreams, and this makes me sad. I wouldn't know. I almost never remember my dreams. Ooooo....I just noticed I have a cat souvenir. How did I get that? and you have a horseshoe.

Ah, I was wondering when someone would notice those. I repurposed an award plug in to add those. They are little "collectables" or flair that Dani and I can add to profiles. We are going to give them out randomly when the mood strikes so they are surprises. (Isn't great when someone goes on a trip and comes back with a souvenir for you?) At some point, if we have contests, we can give special ones as prizes. I gave you the kitty because of your love of cats and horsecrazy a horse shoe because she crazy about horses. I thought it would be nice to rewards you two because this thread is usualy quiet so its nice to see it being used.

Yeah! Thanks.
I'm taking the new cat in to the vet today. I'm supposed to do it within a week of adoption anyway. But she doesn't seem to be eating.
