Here's the official synopsis for the first episode.
ELENA’S WORST NIGHTMARE — Elena (Nina Dobrev) awakens on the morning after the accident to find the thing she dreaded most has come true – she died with vampire blood in her system and now must go through the terrible transition to become a vampire…or face certain death. Stefan (Paul Wesley) promises Elena that he and Bonnie (Kat Graham) will exhaust every possible way out of the situation, but Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is furious with his brother for letting Elena die in the first place. Bonnie pays a terrible price for her attempt to change Elena’s fate, while Damon takes out his frustration and rage on Matt (Zach Roerig). In a rare moment of empathy, Rebekah (guest star Claire Holt) is deeply touched by Stefan and Elena’s devotion to one another. Finally, Pastor Young (guest star Michael Reilly Burke) and the Town Council members begin rounding up the vampires and their supporters, leading to an unexpected tragedy. Steven R. McQueen, Candice Accola, Michael Trevino and Joseph Morgan also star. Chris Grismer directed the episode written by Caroline Dries (#401).

If you ask me, its her own fault she's experiencing "her worst nightmare." Maybe if she'd learned to have more value for her own life, she wouldn't have died, and thus wouldn't have become a vampire.

I can sympathize that Elena's life isn't turning how the way she and wanted it, but has you said she set herself up to be killed and/or turned into a vampire. If hang out with vampires and even try to protect them from humans and other supernatural beings then you should be prepared for the possibility the you could become one yourself. Also gotta say it's dumb that Damon is giving Matt garbage because Elena and Stefan chose to save him instead. It's not like unconscious Matt got a say in who should be rescued first.

LOL I AGREE. Why the hell is Damon blaming poor Matt? Wait....he's the one who was driving her out of town. But still!

Kattttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt !!! It's a hanger action - reaction! Damon needs to lash out...Obviously, he can't lash out too much on Stefan, for obvious reasons that Stefan and him are brothers, and Stefan is near Elena, so he will take the next person available, and that was also in the middle of the all deal. He perfectly know that it was not Matt fault...But, he don't care, he needs to let go of his frustration.

it's not matt's fault elena wanted stefan to save him, but I suppose Damon has to blame someone because that's how he is. But how about putting the blame where it belongs for once? What's wrong with making Elena responsible for her actions?

What's wrong with making Elena responsible for her actions? Mm... I think Damon is in a phase of realizing that he needs to lower Elena from the pedestal that he had put her. Elena is not better by her actions than any of them ... And as stupid what I'm about to say it, her extreme morality is, more than oftenly, putting everybody in danger...Because, in real life, not everything is black and white. If I made any sense.

No, I totally get what you're saying. If she would just be selfish once in awhile, and think about saving herself, than the group wouldn't have to worry about her all the time.

Still I wonder how in hell she was not realizing that AT SOME POINTS, SOMEHOW, she would turn as a vampire? She is hanging around vampires...And she thought that she would forever leave as a human, with in top of it, the Petrova curse? I don't know...She was obviously living in her bubble.

yeah, I mean, there were hints given to her as early as season one that she wouldn't be able to have a life with stefan while human, I mean Lee and Lexi, HELLO, Miss Gilbert! I hope that in the first episode, we see Elena step back and really just realize and think about how she got where she is and why, and that she learns something from it.

I really dont want to watch Elena feeling sorry for herself. After Caroline and what happen to Abby etc... I want to see a Bad @$$ Elena who is more Kathrine Scratch that can we HAVE Kathrine instead?

I don't want to watch her just feeling sorry for herself either...but I want her to just realize how she got the way she is and that a lot of it is actually her responsibility. I want her to take on more personal responsibility this season.

I want her to take on more personal responsibility this season. I don't need to see Elena feeling sorry for herself either, but at the same time I need there to be some kind of emotion from her over the recent events because I feel like too many times we miss out on all those genuine emotions from Elena that don't involve her confusion over which Salvatore she loves more. Her heartache and any depression over everything in her life that she's lost gets glossed over way too much in an effort to make Elena look like a "strong" girl. But ignoring and remaining in denial about your problems does not make somebody a strong person. Nobody can grow as a person and learn from their mistakes if they choose to go through life in this unrealistic bubble where they keep convincing themselves everything is fine and things will eventually work out the way they want.
