I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who wasn't moved by this episode. Safe for Connor and April's introduction, this felt like such a filler episode! I thought the scene with Damon/Alaric was cute, but Damon/Elena's little thing gave me more Klaroline food TBH. The main triangle is pretty much frozen atm. What really angered me was that they were so sloppy when they remembered dead characters. What about John and Isobel? They were Elena's biological parents. What about Mason? I laughed when he opened the oven and the letter was there, perfectly intact. Also, Tyler was a bit of a d-bag in this episode, wasn't he? Yes, he took a stake to the stomach in order to help out his friends but I was like "UGH!" when he kept wanting Caroline to have sex even after she said they shouldn't. Pressure much? It tells you how incompetent the police in MF are that no one checked the oven. After a fire that started in a kitchen. Tyler was a horny highschool kid in that scene, not a loving man. Certainly not a hero. And his big safe later on was commendable, but I wasn't really wowed off my chair. He knew it wasn't going to kill him. He didn't risk his life. Which still makes him a dozen times more heroic than Klaus, but he's no martyr.

Klaus could have and almost did die when he went into the high school to save Caroline and Elena.

Klaus could have and almost did die when he went into the high school to save Caroline and Elena. As much as I want to believe that, we never found out whether he went there to get Elena and also help Caroline or to help Caroline and get Elena as a bonus. He never jumped in front of a flying white oak stake. I just don't see him as heroic but I don't even want him to be. He'll help the people he loves. That's enough.

Well, if he jumped in front of a white oak stake that would be pretty heroic since it could kill him. As you pointed out Tyler knew his hybrid side would save him from the bullets. And he also was probably only doing this for ones he loved. Not the many extras in the scene. It is still true that Klaus knew he could be killed regardless of his motives. They didn't mention Mason? I didn't catch that one.

I know his mom called an ambulance to keep up appearance, but I don't think they would have kept him the hospital? Tyler is almost always absent from their group "meetings" so I wasn't surprised he wasn't there.

Caroline and Matt are his closest contacts. Elena, Bonnie and Jeremy don't have much of a friendship with him. Neither did Alaric. He's part of the group by association.

Yeah I don't find it very surprising that Tyler was left out of their private memorial scene. Elena, Damon, and Stefan are really the leaders of their group and Tyler is not close with them. Matt and Caroline seem to be his only good friends.
